How to Calculate Trading Win Rate
Win rate is the share of trades classified as winners in a defined sample. Decide how you treat break-even trades before calculating, and apply that rule consistently.
Formula
Win Rate = Winning Trades ÷ Total Trades × 100%
For example, 48 winning trades out of 80 closed trades gives a 60% win rate if all 80 are included in the denominator.
Steps
- Choose a period or trade sample.
- Count winning closed trades using a consistent net or gross rule.
- Decide whether break-even trades count in the total and use the same approach every time.
- Divide winning trades by the selected total and multiply by 100.
What it does not tell you
Win rate does not include the relative size of wins and losses. Pair it with average win/loss, costs, and other risk measures; a high win rate alone does not establish that a strategy is profitable.
