TradesMatrix Guide
Trading Journal vs Excel
A spreadsheet can be a capable trading journal, while a dedicated journal may make repeated logging and review more convenient. The right choice depends on your workflow and how you manage your records.
When a spreadsheet may fit
- You want full control over columns, formulas, and layout.
- You are comfortable validating formulas and maintaining the file.
- You need an offline or highly customized workflow.
- You have a reliable backup routine and can protect sensitive files.
When a dedicated journal may fit
- You prefer structured trade entry and built-in review tools.
- You want analytics and reports without building formulas yourself.
- You value a consistent workflow across supported devices.
- You have checked how the product stores, exports, and backs up data.
Compare before moving records
Test both approaches with the same small sample and reconcile totals against broker statements. Check export options and privacy terms. A dedicated product is not automatically more accurate, and a spreadsheet is not automatically less capable.
